Continuing Medical Education is part of all of our careers as health professionals, and is also a great opportunity to learn new skills and explore new areas. While I love going to a nice hotel or resort and living in luxury every now and then, my true passion is the out of doors.
While looking for CME courses I was disappointed not to find any that were set in more remote or wilderness settings. As an instructor for the National Outdoor Leadership School in Alaska I led month long courses that were eligible for college credit. With that experience I could see no reason why you couldn't teach quality CME courses in almost any variety of wilderness settings as well.
With that in mind I founded Corvidae Medical Expeditions in 2007. The concept is simple, provide CME that is practical to our daily practices, but do it in the woods. I don't particularly like to hear myself talk too much, and enjoy hearing from others who have some expertise and enjoy sharing it with others. Corvidae courses therefore have various speakers invited on each course. You only have to listen to me now and again.
I have made many contacts in my years as a vagabond prior to medical school, and I'm excited to tap into these various guides and outfitters from around the world to offer some amazing courses. We have run dogsledding courses in Ely for three years running, and are looking at more areas to explore. This is just the tip of the iceberg and more exciting trips are coming. We hope you will join us!
